Shapiro, Harry L(ionel) (1902-1990)

US physical anthropologist. Shapiro was both curator and chairman of the American Museum of Natural History, 1926-70). In 1936 he performed extensive research on the Pitcairn Islanders, and in 1946 he originated the forensic system of anatomically identifying war dead.
