Sharp, William (1855–1905)| Scottish novelist. His romantic tales published under the pseudonym Fiona Macleod were reminiscent of Ossian and played an important part in the Celtic revival. They include Pharais, a Romance of the Isles 1894, The Mountain Lovers 1895, and The Sin-Eater and Other Tales 1895. |
| Sharp was born in Paisley, Strathclyde, and studied at Glasgow University. He travelled widely, ending his days in Sicily. |
| The Human Inheritance, a volume of his verse, appeared 1882 and Sospiri di Roma 1891; he also wrote the novels Wives in Exile 1898 and Silence Farm 1899, and edited Lyra Celtica 1896, an anthology of Celtic poetry. |
