Shatner, William (1931– )

Canadian-born television and film actor. Shatner was among the original actors in Tyrone Guthrie's Stratford Shakespeare Festival,1954–57. He starred 1966–69 as Captain Kirk in the television science-fiction series Star Trek. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he appeared as Kirk in a number of films, and he returned to television in the 1980s with the series TJ Hooker (1982–87) and Rescue 911 (1989–96).
