Shawano County

County in east-central Wisconsin; area 2,323 sq km/897 sq mi; population (1990) 37,200. Its capital is Shawano. The county is heavily forested and contains several lakes, of which Lake Shawano in the northeast is the largest; it also contains the Stockbridge Munsee Indian reservation. Sawmilling and dairy farming are major economic activities.

The county is crossed by the Wolf and Embarrass rivers.
