Sheene, Barry Stephen Frank (1950-2003)

English motorcycle racer. He won the British 125cc title in 1970, and gave Suzuki their first victory by gaining the 500cc world championship in 1976, winning it again in 1977, and being runner-up in 1978. He holds the fastest-ever average speed for a world championship race (217.37kmh/135.07mph). In 1981 he raced for Yamaha but, after a crash at Silverstone in 1982, he retired to pursue a career in broadcasting in Australia.

Sheen was born in London, and made his racing debut in 1968. He suffered his first bad crash at Daytona in 1975, which left him with fractures and a pin in his leg.
