Shekhter, Boris Semionovich (1900-1961)

Russian composer. He made a close study of Turkmen folk music, and based some of his works on it. He was a pupil of Nikolai Miaskovsky (1881-1950) at the Moscow Conservatory.

Opera

The Year 1905 (with Davidenko, 1935) and The Son of the People.

Orchestral

suite Turkmenia for orchestra, five symphonies (1929-51, including symphony Dithyramb for the 20th anniversary of the Russian revolution).

Chamber

piano concerto; song cycles.
