Shelby, Isaac (1750–1826)

US soldier and public official. Shelby followed the moving frontier, relocating to Virginia in 1773 and to Kentucky in 1783. He became the first governor of Kentucky in 1792 and was offered the post of secretary of war in 1817, but declined because of his age.
