Shelbyville

City and administrative headquarters of Shelby County, central Indiana, 40 km/25 mi southeast of Indianapolis; population (1990) 15,300. In an area that raises corn and livestock and has many dairy farms, it is a trade, processing, and distribution centre. Products include electrical and heating equipment, furniture, radio and television parts, fibreglass, plastics, and clothing.

Shelbyville

City and administrative headquarters of Bedford County, south-central Tennessee, on the Duck River, 79 km/49 mi southeast of Nashville; population (1990) 14,000. It is called the ‘Pencil City’ after its chief product. It also produces clothing, plastics, and lorry transmissions; handles local grain, livestock, and poultry; and is a centre for breeding and training Tennessee walking horses.
