Shelter Island

Landfill construction 1.2 km/0.8 mi long in San Diego Bay, San Diego, California. It is linked by a causeway to Point Loma and is a resort area, the site of hotels, boatyards, parks, and the San Diego Yacht Club.

Shelter Island

Island town in southeastern New York State, between Little Peconic and Gardiners bays and between the North and South forks of Long Island; length 11 km/7 mi; width 10 km/6 mi; population (1990) 2,300. Formerly (from 1652) a refuge for Quakers, it is now primarily a summer resort.
