Sheppard, John (c. 1515–c. 1563)

English composer. In 1542 he became organist and choirmaster at Magdalen College, Oxford, and later was in Queen Mary's Chapel Royal.

He learnt music as a choirboy at St Paul's Cathedral in London under Thomas Mulliner.

Masses The Western Wynde, The French Masse, Be not afraide, and Playn Song Mass for a Mene; 21 Office responds, 18 hymns, motets, two Te Deums, two Magnificats, anthems, and other choral pieces.
