Sheriffmuir, Battle of
| During the Jacobite rebellion of the Fifteen, inconclusive engagement 13 November 1715 between the Earl of Mar's 10,000-strong Jacobite army and 3,300 royalist troops under the Duke of Argyll. Although not actually defeated, Mar was forced to retreat to Perth and the rising collapsed shortly after. |
