Shippagan

Town in northeastern New Brunswick, Canada, 24 km/15 mi east of Caraquet and 194 km/120 mi north of Moncton, at the tip of the Acadian Peninsula; population (1991) 2,800. It is a fishing and tourist centre.

A Jesuit mission was here in the 1630s, and Acadians, Jerseymen, and others settled in the late 18th century. It is the site of a University of Moncton campus.
