Shipstead, Henrik (1881–1960)

US senator. A dentist, Shipstead was elected to the US Senate in 1923. A supporter of La Follette and of the New Deal, he was also an isolationist concerning international affairs. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he opposed US membership in the United Nations.
