Shoreham

Residential village in Brookhaven town, southeastern New York, 13 km/8 mi east of Port Jefferson; population (1990) 500. It is the site of a nuclear power plant built in the 1970s–80s that was eventually dismantled, having never been on line.

The plant was built by the Long Island Lighting Co. It generated enormous cost overruns and public opposition and was sold to New York State and dismantled.
