Shoreham-by-Sea

Seaport and resort in West Sussex, England, between Worthing and Brighton; population (2001) 19,200. The small cargo ships that use the port, at the mouth of the River Adur, can go out only at high tide. Fishing has become more important in the 1990s.

In the 16th–17th centuries, Shoreham was the most important English Channel port. Trade now is mainly with Baltic and Mediterranean ports.
