Sibthorp, John (1758–1796)

British botanist. He succeeded his father as professor of botany at Oxford University in 1784, and before his early death made two journeys to Greece. He wrote Flora Oxoniensis (1794). Flora Graeca (1806–40), was based on his collection of 3,000 species. Sibthorp was born in Oxford, England.
