Sicherheitsdienst

Security arm of the SS established 1931 to hunt down political enemies and dissenters within the Nazi party. This function was gradually taken over by the Gestapo and the SD became the party's intelligence service, controlling foreign spies and overseeing the politics and loyalties of the German population.
