siciliano

A dance of the 17th and 18th centuries which originated in Sicily, Italy. In a relaxed compound time (6/8 or 12/8), it is closely associated with the pastorale. It appears as a slow movement in baroque sonatas, for example in those by Bach, Handel, and Corelli.
