sidereal period
| Orbital period of a planet around the Sun, or a moon around a planet, with reference to a background star. The sidereal period of a planet is in effect a ‘year’ for that planet. A synodic period is a full circle as seen from Earth; for example, the period from new moon to new moon is the Moon's synodic period. |
