Peak 400 km/250 mi northwest of Sydney, site of the 1.2-m/48-in UK Schmidt Telescope, opened in 1973, and the 3.9-m/154-in Anglo-Australian Telescope, opened in 1975, which was the first large telescope to be fully computer-controlled. It is one of the most powerful telescopes in the southern hemisphere.
