Siger of Brabant (c. 1240–c. 1282)

Netherlandish philosopher, a follower of Averroës, who taught at the University of Paris, and whose distinguishing between reason and Christian faith led to his works being condemned as heretical 1270. He refused to recant and was imprisoned. He was murdered in prison.
