Signal Hill

City in southwestern California, 31 km/19 mi southeast of central Los Angeles and completely surrounded by Long Beach; population (1990) 8,400. The site of a major oil strike in 1921, it is a residential community amid numerous oil wells.

Signal Hill

Hill in St John's, Newfoundland, Canada. At its summit stands the Cabot Tower, commemorating the discovery of Newfoundland by the Italian navigator Giovanni Caboto in 1497.
