Sikeston

City in southeastern Missouri, 48 km/30 mi south of Cape Girardeau and 40 km/25 mi west of the Mississippi River (the Kentucky border); population (1990) 17,600. Its economy is largely dependent on the processing and shipping of cotton. It also processes other agricultural products, including soybeans, corn, and wheat.
