Silver Spring

Community in central Maryland, 11 km/7 mi north of Washington DC; population (1990) 76,000. It is a residential and commercial suburb and houses several scientific research centres, including the applied physics laboratory of Johns Hopkins University, and other offices, including the Seventh-day Adventist world headquarters.
