Simcoe

Town in southern Ontario, Canada, on the Lynn River, 61 km/38 mi southwest of Hamilton and 11 km/7 mi north of Lake Erie; population (1991) 15,500. It is a trade and processing centre in a region producing tobacco, fruits, and vegetables, it also manufactures machinery and textiles.

Settled in the 1790s, it was named in 1875 after the first (1790s) lieutenant governor of Upper Canada, John Graves Simcoe.
