Simi Valley

City in southwestern California, 48 km/30 mi northwest of Los Angeles, in the Simi Valley, which is separated from the San Fernando Valley by the Simi Hills; population (1990) 100,200. It is essentially a planned bedroom community, but has a variety of light industries.

It was laid out in 1887 in a ranching and citrus raising area, and boomed in the 1960s as freeways reached it from Los Angeles. It was incorporated in 1969.
