Simionato, Giulietta (1910- )

Italian mezzo-soprano. She studied in Florence, where she won a prize at a competition in 1933. Her early roles included Rosina, Cherubino, and Mignon. She appeared at La Scala, Milan, as Charlotte, Carmen, and Cinderella (1946-66). In 1953 she sang Adalgisa and Amneris at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. She made her New York debut in 1959 at the Metropolitan Opera House, as Azucena. She retired in 1966, after singing Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito at the Piccola Scala, Milan.
