Simon, Geoffrey (1946- )

Australian conductor. He studied at Melbourne University and the Juilliard School, New York. From 1974 he appeared as a guest performer with orchestras in Europe, the USA, and Australia. He was music director of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, New York (1987-89), and artistic advisor of the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra from 1993. He was guest conductor with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonia, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra. His recordings included rare repertoire by Respighi, Tchaikovsky, and Paul Patterson (Mass of the Sea).
