Simon, (Marvin) Neil (1927- )

US dramatist and screenwriter. His stage plays (which were made into films) include the wryly comic Barefoot in the Park (1963; filmed 1967), The Odd Couple (1965; filmed 1968), and The Sunshine Boys (1972; filmed 1975), as well as the more serious, autobiographical trilogy Brighton Beach Memoirs (1983; filmed 1986), Biloxi Blues (1985; filmed 1988), and Broadway Bound (1986; filmed 1991).

He has also written screenplays and co-written musicals; the latter include Sweet Charity (1966), Promises, Promises (1968), and They're Playing Our Song (1978). His autobiographical play Proposals was first staged in 1997.
