Simoneau, Léopold (1916–2006)

Canadian tenor. Known for his roles in Mozart operas, he studied in New York and made his debut in Montreal, in 1941. He moved to Europe in 1949, and was heard at the Paris Opéra-Comique in operas by Charles Gounod and Igor Stravinsky. He appeared at Glyndebourne, as Don Ottavio and Idamante, 1951–54.

He performed at Aix-en-Provence, France; London, England; Vienna, Austria; and Chicago, Illinois during the 1950s and made his New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1963, as Ottavio. From 1973 he taught singing in San Francisco, California.
