Network Time Protocol

Internet standards by which computers can tell each other the time. It is important for computer systems to have the correct date and time, and especially important for online transaction processing systems such as banks. NTP servers base their own clocks on the times transmitted from super-accurate atomic clocks. Other computers, which represent clients, periodically check their own time with that of the NTP server, to remain in accordance.
