The Simpsons| US animated television series. Created by US cartoonist Matt Groening, the series first appeared as part of the Tracey Ullman Show in 1987. It is now the longest-running animated series in television history, and has won many awards, including ten Emmy awards, and has created a huge cult following. It is credited for changing the way cartoons are perceived – it is aimed at an adult audience – and has paved the way for many other comedy cartoon series, including the US series South Park, created by US animators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. |
| The Simpsons is about a dysfunctional family living in Springfield, a fictional US town. Homer Simpson, father of the family, works at the local nuclear plant; Marge Simpson is his long-suffering wife, and they have three children, Bart, Lisa, and baby Maggie. The series has been praised for its incisive commentary of US culture and politics, and has featured many celebrity voices. A feature film, The Simpsons Movie, was released in 2007. |
