Simsbury

Town in north-central Connecticut, on the Farmington River, 16 km/10 mi northwest of Hartford; population (1990) 22,000. It is a growing residential suburb of Hartford; local products include chemicals and explosives.

Simsbury was settled in 1660; the first copper coins in the colonies, called Higley coppers, were minted here in 1737. The town is home to the Westminster (boys) and Ethel Walker (girls) prep schools. Stratton Brook State Park is in the western part.
