Singin' in the Rain

Screen musical made in the USA in 1952. The film cheerfully satirizes Hollywood's problems with the advent of sound. Co-directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly, it follows the difficulties Kelly has in making an early sound picture with a leading lady with a voice like a foghorn. The title number, with Kelly splashing through puddles, is one of the most exhilarating in the history of screen musicals. The film was made in colour.

The screenplay was written by Betty Comden (1919–2006) and Adolph Green (1914–2002), who also wrote lyrics for other musicals such as On the Town. The music was largely written by prolific film composer Nacio Herb Brown (1896–1964).
