Syros

Island in the centre of the Cyclades group of Greece, situated in the Aegean Sea, 127 km/79 mi southeast of Athens; area 85 sq km/33 sq mi. Syros is barren and has little natural vegetation, but olives, figs, barley, and vines are cultivated. The capital, Hermoupoli, is a port with ship-repairing yards.
