Sissinghurst

Village in Kent, southeast England, south of Maidstone, near Cranbrook. The Elizabethan mansion Sissinghurst Castle, nearby to the northeast of the village, was the home from 1930 of the writer Vita Sackville-West. Together with her husband Harold Nicolson, she restored the mansion and created extensive gardens in the grounds. The gardens attract many visitors, and have been in the care of the National Trust since 1966.
