situation comedy

Serialized comedy on radio or television, involving the same set of characters in a different comic situation in each episode. The construction of a sitcom may be similar to those of farce, in that the characters may face bizarre circumstances, or it may be more similar to a comedy of manners, in that one or more of the central characters is satirized for their behaviour.
