Sitkovetsky, Dmitry (1954– )

Ukrainian-born US violinist. He studied in Moscow between 1961 and 1977, and at the Juilliard School, New York, with Ivan Galamian. He won the 1979 Kreisler Competition in Vienna, and made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1980. His US debut was made with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1983); he later appeared with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra (1988). He first performed at the London Promenade Concerts in 1986, later returning with the Elgar and Brahms concertos (1990–91). He was a frequent guest at the Edinburgh, Salzburg, ‘Mostly Mozart’ (New York), and Vienna festivals. He recorded Bach's Goldberg Variations, in his own version for string trio, the Schubert Piano Trios with Gerhard Oppitz and David Geringas, and the Mozart Concertos.
