Sivori, Camillo

    0.01 sec.

Sivori, (Ernesto) Camillo (1815–1894)

Italian violinist and composer. He was a pupil of Paganini, who wrote works for quartet with guitar for him. When Paganini went on tour he was sent to another master, Giacomo Costa. He later studied with Dellepiane, with whom he went on tour, making his debut at Turin, in 1827. They went on to France and London, but in 1829 Sivori returned to Genoa to study composition with Giovanni Serra. He then travelled widely in Europe, the USA, and South America until 1870. Although he lacked the power of Paganini and despite having small hands, Sivori's technique was flawless.

Works

two concertos, Tarantelle napolitane for violin and orchestra; duet for violin and double bass (with Bottesini); two Duos concertants for violin and piano; Andante spianato and numerous other pieces and fantasies on operatic airs for violin and piano; violin studies.
