Sizergh Castle

Castle in Cumbria, England, 5 km/3 mi southwest of Kendal. The 14th-century pele tower (square fortified tower typical of the Border counties) was built for defence against Border raids, but the castle is largely Tudor, containing panelling, old English furniture, and Stuart and Jacobite relics. The castle was given to the National Trust with 632 ha/1,562 acres by the Hornyold-Strickland family in 1950.
