Skaneateles

Town in central New York State, in the Finger Lakes, at the northern end of Skaneateles Lake, 11 km/7 mi east of Auburn; population (1990) 7,500. Situated in an agricultural area, it cans foods, manufactures chemicals and paper, and is a summer resort.

On the site of an American Indian village, it was settled in the late 18th century, and was an important station on the Underground Railroad.
