snowmobile

Motorized sled propelled by a caterpillar track. The snowmobile was invented 1959 by Canadian J Armand Bombardier.

A typical snowmobile holds one person and is powered by a two-cylinder petrol engine. The steering is by two short skis at the front, connected to handlebars. Snowmobiles can travel at more than 160 kph/100 mph or pull heavy loads, and some are designed to climb mountains.
