Skilton, Charles Sanford (1868-1941)

US composer. He studied at Yale University and in Germany. In 1903 he was appointed Professor of Music at Kansas University and there made a study of American Indian tunes.

the operas Kalopin (composed 1927), The Sun Bride (1930), The Day of Gayomair (composed 1936); incidental music for Sophocles' Electra and Barrie's Mary Rose.

oratorio The Guardian Angel, Cantatas.

Orchestral

Primeval Suite and other suites and overtures for orchestra.

Chamber

Two Indian Dances for string quartet; violin and piano sonata; organ and piano works.
