transdermal patch

Adhesive patches containing drugs for delivery through the skin. Packaged in a membrane, the drug is released at a controlled rate. Not all drugs can be administered in this way, but a number of preparations are available, including: glyceryl trinitrate to treat angina; hyoscine for travel sickness; oestrogen replacement for menopausal problems; and the nicotine patch as an aid to giving up smoking.
