Slater, John C

Slater, John C(larke) (1900–1976)

US physicist. He taught and performed research at Harvard 1924–30. At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1930–66, he pursued fundamental research on magnetron design. In the 1950s and 1960s, he returned to quantum mechanical studies of molecular and solid-state theory.

He was born in Oak Park, Illinois. His last academic position was at the University of Florida 1964–76.
