Russalka

Opera by Dargomizhsky (libretto by composer, from Pushkin's dramatic poem), produced at St Petersburg on 16 May 1856. In the story, Natasha, abandoned by a prince, drowns herself and becomes Queen of the river nymphs who lure men into the water. Her father, the Miller, laments her loss and goes mad, throwing the Prince into the river, where he joins Natasha.

Opera by Dvořák (libretto by Jaroslav Kvapil), produced at the Czech Theatre, Prague, on 31 March 1901.
