Sleep, Wayne (1948– )

English dancer. He was a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet 1973–83, appearing in over 50 roles. He formed his own company, Dash, in 1980. Noted for his technical virtuosity, speed, and the relish with which he embraced a range of character roles, he adapted his television Hot Shoe Show for the stage in 1983, fusing classical, modern, jazz, tap, and disco, and appeared in the original productions of the West End hit musicals Cats (1981), Song and Dance (1983), Cabaret (1986), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (2004).
