Slidell

City in southeastern Louisiana, on the Bayou Bonfouca, 43 km/27 mi northeast of New Orleans; population (1990) 24,100. It is a computer centre for NASA operations in the region. Longer-established industries include meatpacking, boatbuilding, and the manufacture of bricks, tiles, and other construction materials. Fishery and tourism are also important.
