Sliven

Town in Burgas region, eastern Bulgaria, on the southeast slopes of the Balkan Mountains, 64 km/40 mi northeast of Stara Zagora; population (2001) 100,700. It is an agricultural centre with textile, carpet, and local coalmining industries. Sliven Spa lies about 11 km/7 mi to the southeast.
