Smith, Maggie (Margaret Natalie Cross) (1934– )
English actor. She has a commanding presence, and delivers throwaway lines in a fluting voice. Her films include The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969, Academy Award), California Suite (1978), A Private Function (1984), A Room with a View and The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne (both 1987), Sister Act (1992), Richard III (1995), and Washington Square (1997). She was created a DBE in 1990.
